NDIS Services in Victoria

Your Complete Guide to Accessing NDIS Services in Victoria with C2A

It’s comforting to know that people with disability, and their families and carers, don’t have to go it alone. Access to funding and support services is available through the National Disability Insurance Scheme – NDIS. This article provides a guide on how you can access the NDIS services in Victoria, and how C2A can support your journey.

We'll explore what the NDIS scheme is, who is eligible, and walk you through the steps for accessing NDIS services with C2A.

Understanding the NDIS: What it means for you

NDIS is a Federal Government initiative that helps people with a permanent or significant disability and also assists your family and carers.

It’s about helping people with disabilities to live your best life and improving the quality of life for everyone involved.

The NDIS funds a range of services that eligible individuals can access through approved providers. Funded services include personalised support, social procurement services, community programs, and helping you find gainful employment. This results in greater independence and access to new skills.

Eligibility for NDIS services in Victoria

Not everyone with a disability is eligible for NDIS services in Victoria. You need to meet the access requirements, which include:

    • Having a permanent or significant disability, one that adversely affects your ability to participate in everyday activities.
    • You must be under 65 when you first join the scheme.
    • You must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who holds a Protected Special Category Visa.

The steps to accessing NDIS services

    1. Step one is to meet the eligibility criteria to join the NDIS.
    2. Step two is to make a verbal request via a phone call to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) on 1800 800 110.
    3. Step three is to submit your Access Request Form via email, along with evidence of your disability from a health care professional relevant to your primary disability.
    4. Step four is an option to mail your Access Request Form to GPO Box 700, Canberra, ACT 2601.

    What happens after approval?

Once you receive approval for assistance from the NDIS, you’ll receive a NDIS card and work with them to formulate a plan. Part of the plan is for the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) to review your goals. If there are disability-specific hurdles that will hamper you from achieving your goals, the scheme will provide funding to overcome these barriers.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme also provides funding to access services in the community, such as community groups, doctors, support groups, sporting clubs, schools, libraries and more.

Currently, the NDIS supports more than 500,000 Australians who have a disability. This figure includes 80,000 children, where support provides early intervention for the best possible outcomes.

    The Myplace portal

To help you manage your NDIS plan, the Myplace portal links to your myGov account and enables you to do the following:

    • View your NDIS messages
    • Check your contact details
    • View your current plan and previous plans
    • Create or manage service bookings
    • Create payment requests and view your current requests
    • Locate service providers
    • Share plans with service providers
    • Upload documents, such as service agreements

    More about the NDIS Card

The National Disability Insurance Agency issues the NDIS yellow card. This is a document that verifies your eligibility for NDIS funding. Here’s what the card does:

    • It acts as a visual representation of your involvement in the NDIS
    • The card makes it easy for service providers to identify participants and understand your needs
    • It simplifies access for you to receive NDIS-funded services
    • The card enhances communication between you and your service provider
    • It promotes informed decision-making based on your goals, preferences and other criteria

    Purchasing with the NDIS

If you have a self-managed plan, you can either make a payment request through the Myplace portal or via the my NDIS app. Money from your NDIS plan budget then goes into your bank account, so you can pay for approved products or services.

For MDIA managed plans, your providers use the Myplace portal to claim plan funding. Likewise, if you have a plan manager, they’ll also access funds through the Myplace portal on your behalf.
